Wedding Questions and Answers

What should I wear?

We would LOVE to see our family and friends dressed up for our big day! The dress code will be cocktail/semi formal. For women, floor-length or midi dresses would be ideal, while the men can wear a simple suit and tie (no sophisticated tuxedos necessary). Women, please refrain from wearing white or shades of white.

Will our children be able to attend?

We love your little ones! However, we have decided to keep our wedding and reception an adults-only event. We encourage you to use this as a date night to relax, socialize, and dance! We hope this notice will provide enough time for you to make other arrangements and celebrate with us!

Can I bring a guest/date?

The wedding invitations sent out will specifically detail the number of guests invited for that family, group, or couple. If there is a member in your party that can not attend due to any reason, we can accommodate their vacancy being filled in by someone else such as a significant other or other family member. We only ask that their names be given to us so that we can make accommodations for them on the day.

Can I take pictures during the ceremony?

We are having an “unplugged” ceremony. This just means we are asking that all phones and devices are put away or on silent during the ceremony. Feel free to take as many photos and videos afterwards during cocktail hour and the reception!

What if I forget to RSVP?

If you do not reserve your spots by the given deadline, we will assume your absence at the wedding. Please know that if you were to show up without notice, you will not have a seat or a dinner spot. Make sure you RSVP before the deadline!

Where exactly is The 1909?

The 1909 sits along the midway point of Topanga Canyon (CA-27), which connects the cities of Santa Monica and Malibu to Woodland Hills and Calabasas. Right in front of the venue is a popular eatery called Cafe on 27, which shares the same parking lot. Be aware that the roads are moderately windy and have no light posts due to local ordinances.

What is the parking situation like for the venue?

Just outside of the wedding venue will be a valet company that will be servicing us until 4:30pm. The cars will be parked at the lot in front of the venue, right next to the eatery Cafe on 27 (there will be posted signage of the restaurant right in front of the road).

Are there any accommodations for the handicapped?

Absolutely! There will be a staff member at the entrance operating a golf cart service that will be able to take guests to the ceremony. The same service will also be able to take guests around the venue throughout the day, at any time.

Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony will be held at the outdoor deck overlooking the lushness of the canyon. The first half of the reception will take place in the meadows (outdoors) and will continue inside the rustic home, upstairs in the dance hall.

What kind of food will be served?

Cafe on 27 will be serving the following:

Salads

caesar salad and The 1909’s house salad that includes sliced cucumber, tomatoes, radish, red onions, and sliced bell peppers tossed in sweet onion citrus vinaigrette.

Mains

grilled marinated steak with chimichurri sauce, citrus baked salmon with lemon butter, and some marinated chicken breast/thighs with herbs.

Sides

roasted russet potatoes and red onions in rosemary oil, and roasted seasonal vegetables with lemon olive oil and herbs.

Will there be an open bar?

This will definitely be a popular question for many and yes it will be an open bar! Keep in mind that drinks will not be served until after the conclusion of the ceremony and will service us for about four hours. Please tip them generously!
